A Quizzical Reality...

 OK, Here I am done with Windows (Ahhh the Viruses...), Linux (ummm..its good, just bored..  ) and Mac / Hackintosh (No networking in hackintosh ).

Now moving to other stuff. (What?... DOS? ). No there are other operating systems too you know. Win-Lin-Mac are not the only ones in the holy sacred mind boggling world of softwares which are interface between a human and a computer.

And again there are choices... (I hate them )... Here are the five alternatives to Windows / Mac / Linux (For x86 platform ofcourse), I found interesting :=


.) AROS Research Operating System:

The AROS Research Operating System is a lightweight, efficient and flexible desktop operating system, designed to help you make the most of your computer. It's an independent, portable and free project, aiming at being compatible with AmigaOS 3.1 at the API level (like Wine, unlike UAE), while improving on it in many areas. The source code is available under an open source license, which allows anyone to freely improve upon it.

What I liked about it is that its Open Source (I am still an OSS fanatic..hehe). It emulates Amiga enviroment so that old Amiga application can run on it.

Haiku is an open-source operating system currently in development designed from the ground up for desktop computing. Inspired by the BeOS, Haiku aims to provide users of all levels with a personal computing experience that is simple yet powerful, and free of any unnecessary complexities.

Ahh another Open Source. Me just love OSS. Haiku have NetPositive and Firefox for WebBrowsing. Sweet Firefox....

.) Syllable Desktop

Syllable is a free and open source operating system that was forked in 2002 from AtheOS, an AmigaOS clone. It’s intended as a lightweight and fast OS suitable for home and small office users.

Ahhh, No don't kick me please cause its Open Source too . But the looks... Sooo Sexy...  It comes in live-cd and can also run on Asus Eee PC very well. It has a nice collection of apps for example ColdFish (Audio Player), AView (Image Viewer) and Webster (WebBrowser). It also has some games like SDL-Quack (Yay! The fun of gaming!)

.) MenuetOS

MenuetOS is an Operating System in development for the PC written entirely in 32/64 bit assembly language, and released under the License. It supports 32/64 bit x86 assembly programming for smaller, faster and less resource hungry applications.

OK this one is not open source. This have its own licence. (Weird ). The best thing about it? It fits in a floppy. Yes. An OS with GUI in a floppy. How cool is that? Other features include: IDE for various languages, Skinnable-Transparent GUI, a WebBrowser, Email client and http/ftp/mp3 server.

ReactOS® is a free, modern operating system based
on the design of Window$® XP/2003. Written completely from scratch, it
aims to follow the Windows® architecture designed by Micro$oft from the
hardware level right through to the application level.

Ahhh if you are scared by all those geeky OSs above, this one is for you. (Sweet Dish is served in last ). Best thing about it? You can run your windows programs on it.  The worst thing about it? Its still is in Alpha and crashes a lot.

WARNING: Mortals... Please stay away from these Operating Systems. They are not for newbies... You must know what you are doing before installing these. Hehe...

Now..Its time to decide which one to install... So much options... I hate them.
